Southern Railway launches Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 Campaign with Curtain Raiser at  GM’s Office, Southern Railway Headquarters

Southern Railway today organised the Curtain Raiser event of the Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2026 Campaign at the General Manager’s Office, Southern Railway Headquarters, Chennai, marking the commencement of a series of cleanliness and public participation initiatives across the Zone.

The Curtain Raiser event was inaugurated by Shri U. Subba Rao, General Manager, Southern Railway,in the presence of Shri Vipin Kumar, Additional General Manager, Principal Heads of Departments and DRMs of Southern Railway.

The Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 Campaign, with the theme “Swachhata Mein Sahbhag; Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat” (Participation in Cleanliness; Clean India, Developed India) seeks to further strengthen the culture of cleanliness, hygiene and public participation across all spheres of railway operations.

As part of the nationwide campaign, Indian Railways aims to transform One lakh unique locations across the country into Cleanliness Target Units (CTUs). The initiative is intended to create visible and sustainable improvements in cleanliness at identified locations while encouraging active participation of railway personnel, passengers, students, local communities and other stakeholders.

As part of the campaign, “Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath” (One Day, One Hour, Together!) Shramdaan will be organised on 1st October 2026, encouraging railway employees and members of the public to come together and contribute one hour towards cleanliness.

The campaign will culminate in the observance of Swachh Bharat Diwas on 2nd  October 2026, commemorating the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and reaffirming the collective commitment towards a cleaner and more sustainable India.

Southern Railway will undertake a range of cleanliness, awareness and public-participation activities across its Divisions, stations, railway colonies and other identified locations during the campaign. The initiative seeks to build sustained behavioral change and reinforce the message that cleanliness is a shared responsibility requiring the active participation of every stakeholder.
