SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Directorate of Sports, successfully organized a unique 26-Hour Continuous Non-Stop Swimming – Anti-Drug Awareness Initiative as part of the Founder’s Birthday Celebration 2026. The event aimed to create strong awareness among students, youth, and the public about the harmful effects of drug abuse and to promote a healthy, active, and drug-free society.
As part of this initiative, 88 swimmers participated in continuous non-stop swimming for 26 hours, demonstrating their commitment to spreading the message: “Just Say No to Drugs.” The event was held from 9:00 a.m. on 23 August 2026 to 11:00 a.m. on 24 August 2026 at the Dr. T. R. Paarivendhar Aquatic Complex, SRMIST, Kattankulathur – 603203.
Through this remarkable swimming initiative, SRMIST conveyed the message that sports, fitness, and a healthy lifestyle can play an important role in preventing drug abuse and building a stronger future. The event carried the collective message: “One Goal – Clean Society, One Stroke – Stronger Future, One Message – Say No to Drugs, Save Life.”
The initiative was successfully completed by all 88 swimmers. The Nova World Record recognition ceremony was inaugurated by Additional Registrar, MSL, Dr. T. Mythili, at 9:00 a.m. on 23 August 2026. Following the successful completion of the 26-hour swimming initiative, Registrar Prof. S. Ponnusamy received the 8th Nova World Record certificate on behalf of Directorate of Sports ,SRMIST at 11:00 a.m. on 24 August 2026.
The successful completion of this remarkable initiative marks a significant achievement for SRMIST and reinforces its commitment to promoting sports, fitness, healthy living, and a drug-free society.
