Coimbatore, September 23, 2026: Samsung Research Institute-Noida (SRI-N) is contributing to health and wellness capabilities on the Galaxy Watch9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra2, while testing and refining wearable technologies to suit Indian conditions and user behaviours.
The centre’s work spans health and wellness features such as Vital Tracker, Daily Cardio Load, Hearing Health and Trail Running. SRI-N also conducts user trials in India to identify real-world challenges and improve software performance.
During testing, for instance, engineers found that movement inside auto-rickshaws travelling on bumpy roads could sometimes be detected as cycling activity. The team analysed these false positives and refined the underlying algorithms to improve accuracy in Indian conditions.
“Our platform connects wearable data with smartphones and supports capabilities across activity, sleep, nutrition, mindfulness and vital health indicators,” said Dr Amitabh Thapliyal, Vice President, Service Development, Samsung Research Institute-Noida.
Beyond wearable technology, SRI-N is also developing India-specific services within Samsung Health, including an ABDM-compliant health record developed with Eka Care, medication tracking with Tata 1mg, and Find Care services with Tata 1mg and PharmEasy for doctor consultations, medicines and lab-test bookings.
Through its integration with India’s digital health ecosystem, Samsung Health enables users, with their consent, to manage and share health records through ABDM-compliant services. These initiatives reflect Samsung’s focus on developing personalised health and wellness experiences while leveraging India’s engineering talent for both local and global products.
