Chennai, 28 Oct 2026: Amazon and Tata Motors have announced a collaboration to deploy 3,000 electric trucks across Amazon’s transportation network in India, marking the country’s largest electric-truck deployment by an e-commerce company.
The initiative extends Amazon’s fleet electrification efforts beyond last-mile delivery to middle-mile transportation and long-distance freight corridors.
The first batch of Tata electric trucks was flagged off in Delhi by Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumara swamy, alongside senior representatives from Amazon, Tata Motors and the Delhi government.
Under the collaboration, Tata Motors will supply electric trucks, while Amazon’s carrier partners will own and operate the vehicles.
The initial rollout will begin in Delhi during the festive season, deploying light- and medium-duty electric trucks to transport shipments between facilities and cities.
The next phase aims to expand operations across major national highways, including the 2,800-km Delhi –Bengaluru–Chennai corridor along NH48, connecting seven states and six major e-commerce regions.
Dedicated charging infrastructure, including charging hubs being developed with infrastructure provider Yahhvi, will support the expansion.
Amazon said the initiative supports its goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2040.
The company already operates more than 15,000 electric vehicles across over 500 Indian cities.
Tata Motors said the partnership would demonstrate the viability of integrating electric trucks into large-scale logistics operations, supported by charging infra structure, servicing and operational assistance.
The collaboration aligns with India’s broader clean-mobility ambitions and initiatives such as PM E-DRIVE.
It builds on ongoing efforts to accelerate commercial fleet electrification and reduce transportation-related emissions nationwide.
