Chennai, September 26, 2026:
The Tamil Film Active Producers Association (TFAPA) held its 6th Annual General Body Meeting (AGM) at Hotel Adithya, Vadapalani, Chennai, with more than 150 producer members taking part in the proceedings.
Minister for School Education, Tamil Development, Information & Publicity, A. Rajmohan, attended the meeting and interacted with members on various issues concerning the Tamil film industry. He also assured the Association of the State Government’s support in considering the requests submitted by TFAPA.
During the meeting, TFAPA submitted a detailed memorandum to the Minister highlighting several issues that the Association said require government intervention to support the growth and sustainability of Tamil cinema.
Among the major demands were the removal of the 4 per cent Local Body Entertainment Tax currently applicable in Tamil Nadu, regular conduct of the Tamil Nadu State Government Film Awards and clearance of pending awards, and the release of subsidies pending for small-budget films for the past 11 years.
The Association also sought continuation of the subsidy scheme on a regular annual basis and enhancement of the existing subsidy from Rs.7 lakh to Rs.10 lakh.
Other key requests included a single-window system for shooting permissions across Tamil Nadu, including permission for filming on city roads, and the introduction of a Movie Ticket Tracking System. The proposed system would enable producers to access theatre collection details online after every show, with the aim of improving transparency and reducing possible revenue leakages.
TFAPA further requested annual financial support from the State Government for a proposed OTT platform to be established by producer associations for streaming small-budget Tamil films.
The Association also sought the establishment of a State-supported anti-piracy organisation to strengthen efforts against film piracy.
Another longstanding demand raised at the meeting was the removal of the Virtual Print Fee (VPF) collected by digital cinema operators. TFAPA requested government intervention to address the issue.
The Association also called for a tripartite discussion involving Producer Associations, Theatre Owners, Distributors and the Tamil Nadu Government to find a sustainable solution to the OTT release-window issue and the VPF-related concerns.
Producers of noteworthy films honoured
For the first time, TFAPA honoured producers of noteworthy and successful Tamil films released between October 2025 and September 2026.
The producers were presented with trophies and medals in recognition of their contribution to the Tamil film industry. Several award recipients were present at the AGM to receive the honours. The list of films recognised by the Association was also released as part of the event.
The AGM witnessed strong participation from the producer community, with more than 150 members attending the meeting.
Among those present were Khushbu Sundar, Soundarya Rajinikanth, Vijay Antony and Kannan Ravi.
G.K.M. Tamil Kumaran, President of the Tamil Film Producers Council, Sujatha Vijayakumar, Joint Secretary, along with office-bearers and Executive Committee members of TFAPA, also participated in the AGM.
The Association thanked Minister A. Rajmohan for attending the meeting and for taking note of the concerns raised by the producer community. TFAPA said it would continue its dialogue with the Tamil Nadu Government with the objective of addressing the issues and strengthening the Tamil film industry.
