Chennai, September 30, 2019:Joining the country-wide campaign to celebrate 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the Nemam factory of Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages (HCCB) – one of India’s largest FMCG companies, today launched several community programs to promote cleanliness drive.
More than 60 employees, students, social workers, and other volunteers participated in the program that aims to propel public participation in building a cleaner, greener India. The cleanliness drive is a part of HCCB’s World Without Waste programme, which also supports the ‘Swachhta Hi Seva’, an initiative of the Government of India.
Mrs. T. Shanthi, Block Development Officer,Poonamallee flagged off the drive and distributed the cleaning equipment including broom sticks, waste collection tubs, safety shoes, safety jackets, hand gloves and masks for the village clean guards.
Led primarily by its HCCB employees that work in its factory at Nemam, the volunteers conducted door to door collection of waste from 1500 households in the village.
In addition, HCCB employees also conducted awareness camps on waste segregation, waste disposal, recycling of plastic waste and distributed waste collection bins for source segregation within the village premises.
The programs launched today are designed to reinforce the role of individuals in creating a cleaner and greener environment. Interactive sessions and drawing competitions were also held for local school children. This was followed by a tree plantation activity aimed at creating awareness around plantation drives and measures that need to be undertaken to ensure the survival of plant saplings.
Mr. N. Giriraj, Deputy Block Development Officer, Mrs. S. Poombavai, Zonal Officer, Mrs. S. Reemavathi, Panchayat Secretary, Mr. S. Dinesh Rathnam, Factory Manager, HCCB Nemam Factory, and Mr. P. M. Ravichandran, Zonal Head, Public Affairs were also present on the occasion.
