The 19th edition of the Air India World Tourism Quiz held on 5th October at Sheraton Grand Resorts and Spa, ECR was an exceptional success. Over 120 teams registered, of which 25 teams qualified for the prelims. 5 teams qualified for the finals in this mentally stimulating Quiz. The event organized by Global Conference Management Group (GCMG) was conducted to commemorate UN World Tourism Day (UNWTO) which is observed globally. The primary motive of the quiz was to promote awareness on Ecotourism and sustainable travelling among people of India, especially the corporates.
Mrs. Priamvada Viswanathan, Principal Chief Commercial Manager, Southern Railway – who loves quizzing, was the quiz master once again. She was at her intellectual best and had the teams in a tizzy. Her experience in conducting quizzes for the past 20 years was evident from the start.
Mrs. Bhuvana Rao, GM – Southern Region, Air India said they were happy to be associated with the Tourism Quiz yet again. Over the years, this event has become a signature event looked forward to by all Corporates in Chennai. This was apparent from the tremendous response generated, where over 120 teams competed with each other to win the prestigious prizes. Incidentally, Air India were the Title sponsors of the event. LIC of India and New India Assurance were the Platinum and Gold sponsors respectively.
According to Dr Ajit Kumar, President, Global Conference Management Group said Chennai, being the Intellectual Capital of India, was the obvious choice for the location, like it has been for the past 18 editions. This year we saw an increase in the number of teams participating – there were over 120 enthusiastic teams – including corporate giants like Infosys, Cognizant, Ashok Leyland etc have registered. The rise in the number of participants every year can be attributed to the growing interest shown by people in Tourism. Sheraton Hotel and spa extended their warm hospitality to everyone.
Three bumper prizes – roundtrip tickets and hotel stay for two, to New York, London, Dubai respectively – were presented to the three winners. There was a tie breaker between two teams for the first place and the tie breaker questions were based on the theme ‘Art Indian’. The fourth and fifth placed teams were awarded with tickets for domestic holidays.
The first prize was won by V.V Ramanan and V.R Srinivasan of the Team THE HINDU.
The second prize was won by Kavya Vivek and V.V Siva Kumar of the Team DUA ASSOCIATES.
The third prize was won by K Sridharan and Prasanth Sampath of the Team FORD MOTORS.
